Ocean Life Survey can plan and provide UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) drone surveys and operations tailored to our client needs.
Using our own proven DJI Phantom Pro 4 drone we provide marine, coastal, estuarine and terrestrial aerial survey operations. Previous surveys include New Zealand coastal, marine and marine mammal, marine mega-fauna, and terrestrial woodland surveys, using the drones HD camera for live video viewing, and while recording video and photographic stills for post analysis and photogrammetry purposes. Operating from vessel, shore, or land we can deploy to a wide range of locations around the globe (and arrange safe and legal operation re the relevant national legislation and insurance requirements).
We can offer an overall package to our clients, which includes survey design, delivery, analysis and reporting, while providing both our aerial drone system and an operator, as part of any survey contract.
Further information on the DJI Phantom 4 drone specifications and technical information can be found on the DJI website: www.dji.com/phantom-4
Our drone system can also be deployed equipped with our aerial thermal drone camera system, allowing for thermal detection and monitoring surveys, which we have previously used for client marine, coastal and marine mammal surveys. See below for further details on the capability of the OLS Phantom 4 drone system.
Ocean Life Survey Phantom 4 Thermal Drone System
The Ocean Life Survey Phantom 4 thermal drone system includes the standard DJI Phantom 4 drone with HD video camera & controller, and is equipped with an additional on board mini computer system with 8 hours battery life, an adjustable thermal camera & mount, a separate 10 inch tablet monitor and a drone carrying case.
The thermal camera attachment allows for individual angle and coverage set up, providing a 180 degree vertical angle range from sky to ground, and 360 degree horizontal range. The thermal camera system and mount, and on-board computer & mount can be installed and removed easily from the Phantom 4 Drone, in under 5 minutes.
This readily removable & flexible system provides multiple arrangements for the mounting position configuration of the camera and computer. It also allows the DJI Phantom 4 Drone to still be used in its original configuration operating with its HD visual camera at the same time as operating the thermal imaging camera.
The long range infrared thermal camera has: adjustable focus to set for desired range; a true thermal sensor; a chaclogenide lens; magnesium housing; 206 x 156 array; 32,136 thermal pixels; 20 degree field of view; a temperature detection range of -40 to 330 degree centigrade.
The thermal camera system allows thermal detections up to 600 meters, and provides temperature displays readings for background environments & individual objects, as well as the GPS location. All this information is recorded as a thermal video file on the on-board computer, which can be reviewed, downloaded & analysed post flight.
The thermally equipped drone can fly at speeds up to 20 meters per second, and allows a 25 minute flight time per drone battery (2 drone batteries allow extended flight operations), and up to 30 minutes thermal recording per flight. It can fly & provide live standard video at a range from the pilot/controller of up to 3.5km for CE restricted countries, and 7km for FCC countries.
The system can operate in wind speeds up to 10 meters per second, and can be launched and retrieved from practically any location, from land or boat. The system design also allows for it to be hand launched and retrieved, allowing launch and retrieval operations in close confines.
This system is ideal for any day or night thermal operations, that require evidential thermal detections and data. This includes terrestrial and marine survey work, including water surface temperature surveys, marine mammal & seabird surveys, as well as for other wildlife, scientific, research and industrial applications.
An additional feature of the system is real time thermal image transmission of over 200 meters, providing live thermal imagery and full display location and temperature readings. This allows the system to be operated from the land or boat for close proximity operations which require real time live thermal detection, for instance in the case of fishing vessels seeking to detect risk and avoid occurrence of marine mammal & seabird by-catch, or for MMO operations aboard marine industrial operations such as seismic testing, where checks for marine mammals, seabirds, & turtles.
