Ocean Life Survey is a marine research consultancy, established in 2013. We deliver marine research contracts for clients around the world. We can provide research operations for individual marine environment, habitat, and species assessments; marine renewable energy developments; aquaculture; marine reserve and protected areas; environmental conservation and management programmes; species and habitat protection; and scientific studies.
Ocean Life Survey specialise in conducting marine biology, ecology and oceanographic surveys, delivering research from land, sea and air. We develop and use existing and cutting edge technologies to deliver improved research, monitoring and conservation outcomes while reducing costs.
We deliver research from open ocean marine life and oceanographic surveys, to defined coastal, estuarine/mangrove, reef and polar ice surveys. We deliver overall environmental assessments and oceanographic studies, as well as species and habitat specific research and assessments. We are also experienced in developing and establishing marine reserve and marine protected areas, designing and delivering associated research, monitoring programmes, and environmental impact assessments.
We can design and build a methodology or programme to meet your needs, organise the logistics, manage and execute the field delivery, analyse and interpret the data and results, and report the findings.

Our species expertise includes cetaceans and pinnipeds; seabirds; turtles; sharks; fish; bivalves; marine invertebrates; and plankton. Our ecological habitat expertise includes estuarine and mangrove, intertidal, pelagic and benthic environments, with operational research delivery from coastal zones to open oceans, from the tropics to the polar ice edge. We are also experienced in marine debris and plastic survey, analysis and capture.
We have extensive experience of designing and carrying out surveys from land-based, aerial, and vessel platforms, for government agency, marine industry, and the non governmental sector.
Ocean Life Survey also develops technological solutions to address existing marine research and conservation management issues. and concerns, including systems for nocturnal marine mammal detection, including a large whale detection and alert system for vessels to avoid collision with whales, and a practical dolphin and seal detection system for fishing vessels to avoid dolphin and seal activity during fishing operations, reducing the levels of dolphin death in fisheries by-catch.
