Equipment Provision

Ocean Life Survey can provide specialist custom equipment to order. Please see below for equipment options available:

1. Ocean Life Survey Phantom 4 Thermal Drone Standard System (OLSP4TDS) - £2500 (excluding tax & shipping)

The Ocean Life Survey Phantom 4 Thermal Drone Standard System (OLSP4TDS) includes the standard DJI Phantom 4 drone with HD video camera & controller, and is equipped with an additional on board mini computer system with 8 hours battery life, an adjustable thermal camera & mount, a separate 10 inch tablet monitor and a drone carrying case.

The thermal camera attachment allows for individual angle and coverage set up, providing a 180 degree vertical angle range from sky to ground, and 360 degree horizontal range. The thermal camera system and mount, and on-board computer & mount can be installed and removed easily from the Phantom 4 Drone, in under 5 minutes.

This readily removable & flexible system provides multiple arrangements for the mounting position configuration of the camera and computer. It also allows the DJI Phantom 4 Drone to still be used in its original configuration (when not requiring thermal imaging), and allows the thermal camera and computer system to be used away from the drone, for instance in handheld, tripod, and pole mounted operations.

The long range infrared thermal camera has: adjustable focus to set for desired range; a true thermal sensor; a chaclogenide lens; magnesium housing; 206 x 156 array; 32,136 thermal pixels; 20 degree field of view; a temperature detection range of -40 to 330 degree centigrade.

The thermal camera system allows thermal detections up to 600 meters, and provides temperature displays readings for background environments & individual objects, as well as the GPS location. All this information is recorded as a thermal video file on the on-board computer, which can be reviewed, downloaded & analysed post flight.

The thermally equipped drone can fly at speeds up to 20 meters per second, and allows a 25 minute flight time per drone battery (additional drone battery options available), and up to 30 minutes thermal recording per flight. It can fly & provide live standard video at a range from the pilot/controller of up to 3.5km for CE restricted countries, and 7km for FCC countries.

The system can operate in wind speeds up to 10 meters per second, and can be launched and retrieved from practically any location, from land or boat. The system design also allows for it to be hand launched and retrieved, allowing launch and retrieval operations in close confines.

This system is ideal for any day or night thermal operations, that require evidential thermal detections and data. This includes terrestrial and marine survey work, including water surface temperature surveys, marine mammal & seabird surveys, as well as for other wildlife, scientific, research and industrial applications.

An additional feature of the OLSP4TDS package is real time thermal image transmission of over 200 meters, providing live thermal imagery and full display location and temperature readings. This allows the system to be operated from the land or boat for close proximity operations which require real time live thermal detection, for instance in the case of fishing vessels seeking to detect risk and avoid occurrence of marine mammal & seabird by-catch, or for MMO operations aboard marine industrial operations such as seismic testing, where checks for marine mammals, seabirds, & turtles.

Further information on the DJI Phantom 4 drone specifications and technical information can be found on the DJI website: www.dji.com/phantom-4

We also offer a package which includes installation and training with the system.

2. Ocean Life Survey Thermal Imaging & Recording System For Drones & Aircraft (OLSTIRS) - £1000 (excl tax & shipping)

The Ocean Life Survey Thermal Imaging & Recording System For Drones & Aircraft (OLSTIRS) has been developed to conduct thermal aerial surveys, and allow attachment to and operation from drone systems and aircraft. It consists of a mini computer system with 8 hours battery life & drone mount, and an adjustable thermal camera & mount.

The thermal camera attachment allows for individual angle and coverage set up, providing a 180 degree vertical angle range from sky to ground, and 360 degree horizontal range. The thermal camera system and mount, and on-board computer & mount can be installed and removed easily from a Drone, in under 5 minutes, and from a small aircraft in a similar time.

This readily removable & flexible system provides multiple arrangements for the mounting position configuration of the camera and computer. It also allows a Drone or aircraft to still be used in its original configuration (when not requiring thermal imaging), and allows the thermal camera and computer system to be used away from the drone or aircraft, for instance in handheld, tripod, and pole mounted operations.

The thermal video and temperature data allows up to 30 minute recordings per drone flight, and for manned aircraft survey operations it can be operated on-board to record multiple 30 minute recordings to cover survey flights over 30 minutes. The aircraft option also allows provision for an on-board observer to have real time thermal imaging and detections screen feed, and thermal setting control and adjustment.

This system is ideal for any day or night thermal operations, that require evidential thermal detections and data. This includes terrestrial and marine survey work, including water surface temperature surveys, marine mammal & seabird surveys, as well as for other wildlife, scientific, research and industrial applications.

An additional feature of the OLSTIRS package is an additional function for real time thermal image transmission of over 200 meters, providing live thermal imagery and full display location and temperature readings. It is designed to allow the system to be operated on a drone for close proximity operations which require real time live thermal detection, for instance in the case of fishing vessels seeking to detect risk and avoid occurrence of marine mammal & seabird by-catch, or for MMO operations aboard marine industrial operations such as seismic testing, where checks for marine mammals, seabirds, & turtles.

We also offer a package which includes installation and training with the system.

3. Ocean Life Survey Long Range Live Thermal Transmission Drone Systems (OLSLRLTTDS) - from £3500 (excl tax & shipping)

Ocean Life Survey can also provide custom thermal drone options, with longer live thermal transmission range options of 2km  from drone to operator. Radiometric and non radiometric thermal camera options are available for this option. Prices start at £3500 for a 2km live thermal transmission range with a non radiometric camera system and standard DJI Phantom 4 drone and twin displays. Other camera and drone options are available at a higher price.

We can also offer a package which includes installation and training with the system.
